PGP Key Signing Session

Sessions in switzerland

A list of international keysigning sessions and keysigning persons

Experience

A german report what you have to remember if you organise a keysigning session.

What is a key signing session for?

A key signing party is a get-together of people who use the PGP encryption system with the purpose of allowing those people to sign each others keys. Key signing parties serve to extend the web of trust to a great degree.

From the GPG Keysigning Party HOWTO

Why should I participate?

  1. Your key will be signed by a lot of other peoples. This increases the probability that a third person can verify that you key is authentic.
  2. You sign a lot of other keys. This increases the probability that you can authenticate keys of third persons.
You find more about this in the explanation of the web of trust.

What is the meaning of a key signature?

If you sign the public key of XY, this means: I confirm, that the key I signed realy belongs to person XY..
Such a signature does not state anything about the integrity of a person or your personal relationship to that person.
